Hollowpits.com welcomes Ben Veitch to the team. We are pleased to have a new team rider and Ben is showing great riding skills for his age. Here are some quick questions with him as I did an interview.  

Age: 17 soonish  

Years Bodyboarding: 5  

Euan: So Ben how have you found it growing up in Margaret River?  

Veitch: Yeah, it’s that good, real quiet not much happens but there are almost always waves to be had, way better than the city!

Euan: Are you sponsored by any other companys?  

Veitch: Apart from the crazy critters at HP.com noone.  

Euan: What are your favourite spots to hit up?  

Veitch: Top 5 would probably be Box and North Point whenever they’re breaking good, Booji, Gas Bay and Riverdog!  

Euan: Wheres your local?  

Veitch: Gas  

Euan: In your eyes who are the biggest shredders from around your area?  

Veitch: Apart from the obvious like Ryan Hardy, Lee Szcsepanski, there’s also Adam Leuhman, Brendon Backshall which are only a few that come to mind.    

Euan: Who do you think are the best up and coming riders in Margaret River?  

Veitch: Apart from the obvious, Josh Casey (Super Grom) who’s tearing, there’s Dan Nicholls, who rips on the knee, Troy Bramich, Nate Wizzle, Ry Dog e.t.c  

Euan: Got many travel plans for the near future?  

Veitch: Nationals at the end of the year in Port Macquarie, South Oz next year and probably Hawaii in the near future.  

Euan: I saw some of Dan Nicolls footage of North Point last friday and you were charging hard, how did you find that session?  

Veitch: That was one of my first surfs in like 3 weeks; I got burnt on my first three waves and was just super keen to get some decent ones under my belt, I just wish I had hit more sections.  

Euan: Biggest wipeout and where?  

Veitch: Lowtide Box I broke my foot and was out of the water for 8 weeks.  

Euan: Who do you look up to most in the sport especially around Margaret River?  

Veitch: Lee and Ryan.  

Euan: Where do you see the sport going in the near future?  

Veitch: As far as I can tell, I can see the sport heading into bigger but more so heavier waves, with crazier moves and hopefully soon the general public will begin to appreciate just how good our sport really is.  

Euan: Do you think that Margaret River needs a bodyboard shop opened?  

Veitch: Yeah for sure, there’s definitely a market at the moment, half the wave riding population here bodyboards and in a few years I think a bodyboard shop would definitely be successful.  

Euan: Favourite beverage?  

Veitch: On the rare occasion, the POP (peach flavour).  

Euan: Most women tuned in one week and are their many hotties around Margs?  

Veitch: I don’t know like 1, I don’t get any girls and the good-looking ones make me nervous and in fear of getting slapped, I won’t say anything about the ‘hotties’ in Margs, hahahaha, nah there’s a few.  

Euan: Most embarrassing moment you have been in?  

Veitch: Too many to mention.  

Euan: Favourite bodyboarding movie?  

Veitch: The Hardlyfe or Against the grain.  

Euan: Favourite quote?  

Veitch: Woooooooooooooooooooo!  

Euan: What would be your dream wave setup?  

Veitch: An A-Frame setup with the left and right each a hectic drop dredging out into a 5 second barrel section, spit, time for a quick spin in the pocket before lining up the wrapping end bowl, landing and having the current taking you back out to the takeoff spot.  

Euan: If there was one thing in the world that you could change what would it be?  

Veitch: Terrorism, what is wrong with those people!?  

Euan: Longest you have ever surfed in one session?  

Veitch: 11 hours at a wave down south  

Euan: Favourite bodyboaring magazine?  

Veitch: MOVEMENT and RIPTIDE, they’re both good.  

Euan: What did you think about the Simple Pleasures Video Preview on hollowpits?   V

eitch: It took my shockingly slow computer about 2 and a half hours to download, apart from that looks crazy, good waves, good riders, good editing, can’t wait till it’s finished.
