| Josh Garner Interview:
Sam: First up, lets hear the tale of the tussle you had recently with a west oz bommie.
Josh: Well, We scored at this amazing bommie the other day, which supplied us with some pretty crazy kegs. Everything was sick; I was pushing my self into some of the larger ones and having a real fun session until I got drilled on one of the shallower ones. I basically got rag dolled with my heel leaving pretty mangled. I Paddled in and hopped my way up the cliff with the help of Rama and chilled waiting for some medical attention. The nurse I went to first couldn’t fix me cause it needed surgery before it could be stitched up. I spent about 3 hours in the hospital getting needled and stitched plus like 2 hours waiting! (the worst!). I left with 21 stitches. I’m stoked with the result and am just super keen to get back in the water and continue pushing my self in the heavy shit.
Sam: Oath! How old are ya man?
Josh: 16
Sam: How many years you been riding?
Josh: Um about 4 years now ey. Im lovin’ it!
Sam: What gear are you using at the moment?
Josh: A Kingy and a Rawlins, Both go well. Churchills, and a Billabong wetty.
Sam: Who are your role models in and out of the sport?
Josh: People with open minds and positive attitudes, anyone wiser than I am, my parents, Stewart, Hardy, Kingy, Bunting, Newton, a lot of the WA bigwigs. I could go on forever!
Sam: You seem pretty confident in heavy waves, what has this spurred from?
Josh: Umm I guess it comes from the desire to fulfil and challenge myself. When it’s big I get satisfaction out of pushing my self which I think is the best way to progress in bodyboarding. I am also a bit of a camera slut which ill admit to haha, its also good having close mates that love to charge as well, this keeps us motivated and competitive.
Sam: Any peers shredding that are worth a mention?
Josh: Ryan (Hands) and Rama (George Ramsdale) because they can charge as well as grovel. There’s heaps of WA shredders around ey!
Sam: Any travelling on the cards?
Josh: Besides exploring what WA has to offer, I’m super keen on other places like Hawaii and the east coast. Me and a few boys are actually planning a drive to east coast n gonna hit a few spots on the way over that we know of too, so yer.
Sam:Sick,Whos been shooting ya lately?
Josh: Strickland Productions was the first dude to start filming me, which has been good so far. Metamorphous Media have shot me a few times too. Bryn Donkersloot has also worked the angles with me. Im pretty stoked to have a few guys that chill behind the lens, big props!.
Sam: Sick, what are your hopes for the future?
Josh: Progressing my bodyboarding to a higher level and enjoying myself. Finishing my resume and picking up a few more sponsors, scoring amazing waves, getting amazing footage and gaining exposure. I really wanna developing style, good comp results, killing a sting ray, increasing my confidence in heavier and gnarlier waves, macking bitches, getting a jet ski, winning lotto so my ambitions can come easier.
Sam: How about out of the water, been hitting much lately?
Josh: Most things a 16 year old does ey. Just party, chill with mates, mack birds, beat off...anything that will make time go quicker til I’m in the water again.
Sam: How many u getting stuck into in one week tiger?
Josh: Haha, um 8 or 9 I think, hahaha...na make it 5, some of em were pretty repugnant.
Sam: Any sponsors you would like to give a mention to mate?
Josh: Yeah, I’ll give a shout out to Beyond Industries who are designing some wicked gear and Hollowpits for the interview. Thanks to Strickland Productions for helping me with my resume too.
Sam: Cheers buddy!
