Exmouth Roadie - Jesse Mcgregor, 15/03/04
A road trip up to Exmouth.
During the last years April holidays, me and a few close booger mates
decided to try and trek it up to the remote location of Exmouth, withholding
some epic long reefies, and fat lips.
We set out really early morning, and were so stoked right the way, kicking
back with tunes from AFI to the good old Rod Stewart, we were so amped up
until the sun came out and we realized that we were slowly running out of
shade and drinks.
After making various stop offs along the way and causing a great disturbance
amongst the local communities, we arrived in Canarvon. We decided to stay
there for the night, taking refuge in a local caravan park, which at the
time were having some old people function and saw us getting a free feed for
the night, cheers Raymond and Eric.
Early morning we decided to set out for the final 3 hours or so. We were
making epic timing and finally arrived in Exmouth as a sik storm was
underway, which soon cleared to be fine and hot. After organizing our
accommodation, we decided to question the locals for a surf spot, after
asking the local ‘Super Value’ we managed to score a late arvo/sunset surf
at a local reefy, shared with ma mates and 2 tiger sharks, we survived.
The next few days consisted of non stop all day surfing the outer reefs of
the great Ningaloo Reef, which saw an endless supply of epic waves, and
scenic filming spots, not to mention the endless supply of sharks.
When we weren’t surfing, we were raiding the local towns stores of cheap
clothing, with epic discounts, and not to mention the great nights of
getting side ways and running the streets causing trouble. All in all we
managed to surf a place that would remain in our minds for ever, and have
the greatest experience of surfing with so much wildlife in one of the best
parts of Australia. We will all certainly remember this trip for a long
time, and hope all you guys reading this take in my advice, and take a trip
north and discover this experience for yourselves.
Cheers guys Jesse Mcgregor: OLDIES BODYBOARDING co.
